Hi!

My name is Peter Kovács, and I am a professional oboist and reed maker from the heart of Slovakia, from the beautiful city of Banská Bystrica.

Since 2012, I have been the Principal Oboe of the State Opera in Banská Bystrica and I play on a Marigaux M2 oboe. 

 

I have been playing the oboe for over two decades, and my passion for this instrument naturally led me to the world of reed making.

I began making reeds over 25 years ago, during my studies at the Conservatory and during further studies and playing in the orchestra. Over the years, I’ve gained a deep understanding of reed making through trial and error, reading specialized literature, and exchanging ideas with oboists from around the world. These experiences have shaped my approach, and reed making has become a true lifelong passion, of course I continue to learn and improve every day.

I specialize in reeds with European-style scraping, with focus on responsive, stable, and colorful sound and my reeds are tailored to meet the needs of both students and professionals.

Each reed is carefully and precisely crafted, ensuring optimal playability, intonation, flexibility, nice sound and projection. Whether you're preparing for a concert, audition, or daily practice, I’m here to help you find the reed that suits your playing style.
